4th District Hopefuls Outline Priorities at Jacksonville Panel

District 4 Candidates LJ Holloway, Michael Kirwin, Ricky Knowles, Brit Robinson, and Todd Schaefer.

Democratic and Independent candidates for Florida’s 4th District gathered Tuesday evening for a discussion panel hosted by a coalition of local organizations including Clay Dems, NOW Jacksonville, Indivisible Jax Riverside, Unified Nassau Florida, Indivisible Jax Springfield, 50501 NE FL, Democratic Women’s Information Network, and Duval Dems. Nearly every seat was filled as attendees listened closely while the candidates responded to a series of questions.

LJ Holloway spoke about her experience in the federal government, the gains she made during previous runs for Congress in 2020 and 2022, and her support from Independent and Republican voters in addition to Democrats. In their opening statements, each candidate introduced themselves and outlined their path to the race.

Michael Kirwin, a fourth-generation Jacksonville native, described his early involvement in politics and highlighted local accomplishments, including helping to write the Jacksonville code of ethics and forming Riverfront Parks Now. Ricky Knowles emphasized his experience as what he called a present-day average American — working three jobs, struggling to pay bills, uninsured, and navigating rising rent costs while being unable to purchase a home.

Brit Robinson recounted losing everything when her sick mother was denied medical coverage due to pre-existing conditions in 2018–2019. The fallout ultimately led to Robinson being sent across the country to live with family friends while finishing high school. She also spoke about the realities of being a military spouse in the current political climate.

Todd Schaefer, a registered Independent, focused on what he described as corrupt banking policies and the need to re-engage young voters in the political process.

Candidates were asked what their first priority would be if elected to Congress. Holloway stated her priority is first and foremost the economy. Kirwin stressed the importance of a Congress that “does its job,” calling for hearings and consequences for Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, and Kristi Noem. Knowles said his first priority would be clearing corruption from the administration and imposing fines for lying to the American people. Robinson boldly proclaimed that on day one, Trump needs to be impeached for treason, a move she argued would pave the way for removal of the entire cabinet. Schaefer discussed addressing interest spreads that allow banks to profit from the savings of everyday Americans.

Throughout the evening, the audience remained engaged, listening intently as each candidate laid out their vision for the district. When the formal discussion concluded, many attendees lingered, forming small circles around the candidates to ask follow-up questions and continue the conversation — a sign that the discussion extended well beyond the stage.

50501 NEFL, a hosting organization, posted a full video of the discussion panel to their Facebook page.
