Community Holds Candlelight Vigil at Brookville,FL Courthouse to Protest Iran Conflict
As dusk settled over Brooksville Courthouse on Saturday evening, a small but determined group of Hernando County residents gathered, candles in hand. The vigil, organized by Hernando County Democratic Club President Carol Barber, was held in response to the recent attack on Iran, offering a space for reflection, concern, and quiet protest.
Approximately 25 participants gathered, their faces illuminated by candlelight. Some clasped signs, others bowed their heads. The mood was solemn, but resolute — a shared expression of unease about escalating conflict and its potential consequences.
Among those in attendance was Chris Irizarry, a congressional candidate for Florida’s 12th District, who remained after the vigil to speak one-on-one with participants. Asked his stance on the attacks on Iran, Irizarry stated “It was reckless and did more to undermine stability in the region and our global standing than it does serving the interests of the United States.”
Irizarry continued by saying “I felt that it was important to join those who attended the vigil because I believe my background gives me credibility to comment on why it was wrong. But more importantly I felt it was necessary to show all those that arrived that I was willing to make the case directly to them… and that I demonstrate from the start that I listen to voters, and that I know it’s their voice I need to bring with me to Washington - not special interests.”
The protest continued into the dark evening hours. In the quiet glow, their message was clear: even in small communit, voices raise for peace.
